About this bursary

Thank you for your interest in our 2026 Stuart Rural GP Bursary provided by the Australian General Practice Research Foundation.

This Bursary has been established in recognition of the advocacy of The Hon Geoff Brock MP for rural general practitioners and his long standing support for ensuring rural voices are represented in healthcare policy, research and professional development. 

This Bursary aims to support general practitioners and GP registrars living and working in the region of Stuart, South Australia to attend GP26 and contribute to the future of rural healthcare.

Rural GPs play an important role as clinicians, community leaders, educators, advocates and trusted members of their community. This bursary seeks to reduce the financial barriers that can prevent rural practitioners from accessing national professional development opportunities and sharing their perspectives on the future of healthcare in rural Australia.

One bursary valued at $2000 ex. GST

What the bursary supports

The bursary is intended to support the successful applicant to attend GP26 in Adelaide from 20–22 November 2026.

The bursary may be used towards costs associated with attending GP26, including conference registration, travel and accommodation.

While the bursary is unlikely to cover the full cost of attendance, it is intended to provide some financial support to reduce the financial burden.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this bursary, applicants must:

  • Be a General Practitioner, or GP in training.
  • Living and/or working within the South Australian electoral district of Stuart. This includes, but is not limited to, areas such as Port Pirie, Roxby Downs, Coober Pedy, Peterborough, Jamestown, Crystal Brook, Burra, Orroroo, Gladstone, Booleroo Centre, and Leigh Creek. Applicants can check whether their location falls within the Stuart electoral district on the Electoral Commission of South Australia website: https://www.ecsa.sa.gov.au/electoral-districts/electoral-district-profiles/stuart
  • Be able to attend GP26 in Adelaide (Friday 20 – Sunday 22 November 2026) and participate in the Rural Voices session during the conference.
  • Agree to:
    • Meet with Hon Geoff Brock
    • participate in program evaluation and discussions with the Foundation
    • share key learnings with their local community or professional networks following the conference.

Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Criterion 1 – Commitment to rural general practice (25%)
    Applicants should demonstrate a clear commitment to practising in rural communities and contributing to the health of their local population.
  • Criterion 2 – Interest in and commitment to improving health outcomes in rural and remote communities (25%)
    Applicants should demonstrate an interest in improving health outcomes in rural communities, including through their clinical practice, community involvement, quality improvement, education or other professional activities.  
  • Criterion 3 – Potential to apply learning from GP26 within their local community (25%)
    Applicants should demonstrate how the knowledge, ideas, connections or perspectives gained through attending GP26 could be applied within their practice, community or professional networks. 
  • Criterion 4 – Leadership, advocacy or research interests relevant to regional healthcare (25%)
    Applicants should demonstrate current or emerging interests in leadership, advocacy, research or other activities relevant to improving rural healthcare. Applicants are not expected to have experience across all of these areas. Evidence of interest or involvement in one or more areas is sufficient. 

Requirements for successful applicants

Successful applicants will be required to: 

  • formally accept the bursary and accept a letter of offer
  • participate in the Rural Voices Roundtable at GP26
  • complete a short post-conference feedback survey
  • allow photos to be taken and used
  • share key learnings with us and/or your professional networks

Application process

Applications open 18 September 2026 at 9:00am (AEST) and close 11 October 2026 at 11:59pm (AEST). Applicants will be notified of outcomes on 30 October 2026.
